Audio books for the trip home

Posted by flooter under Free stuff, Nice resources

Whenever we take a long trip, we bring along some audio books that make the trip fly by.  Here is a site that gives you that luxury for free.  It can be hit or miss from what I’ve heard (they are volunteer readers), but if you’re persistent there are some solid narrators out there.

Google’s new VideoChat

Posted by flooter under Free stuff, Nice resources, Top Fav

Thanks a lot.  It would’ve been nice if Google had released this a little earlier so I could have added it to my last google post, but it probably deserves its own space anyway.  If they do things right they’ll be able to pull the Skype community off that sometime terrible software, and give us something stable to communicate with.  Let me know how you guys like it….

Click here for a quick summary of how to work it:

Google’s Gold

Posted by flooter under Free stuff, Nice resources, Top Fav

Google offers a lot of great stuff.  Here are my all time favorites (many of you will already be familiar with some of these – let me know your favorites – any from the labs that I don’t know about yet?)

Goog 411 – Free 411!  1 800 GOOG 411  - Absolutely the best tool I have on the road.

Gmail – the best email service ever – I still don’t understand why people are still using hotmail or anything else for that matter.

Google Chrome – I’ve posted this before, but it is the only PC browswer that doesn’t crash constantly

Google Docs – Good for collaborative efforts

Google Alerts – Searches the internet for news about anything you ask it to (try making one for your name)

And of course Google Maps – wouldn’t leave home without them:

Hmmm seems like I use Google a little more than I thought I did.

Free Word-type Software

Posted by flooter under Free stuff, Nice resources

I realize that most people may already know about this, but those who don’t will now be able to save themselves a few dollars by downloading this free program rather than buying from the microsoft man.

Open office is pretty similar to Word, Excel, Powerpoint and lets you open documents that have been saved in those programs.

Mac Stats

If you want to have a slick toolbar displaying the stats of your temp, internet upload/download, or diskspace – this is a great free resource.  Click here for some screenshots:

Selfless Defense

Dr. Horton has recently pointed us to this resource on practical tools and arguments for the faith.  He calls it a one-stop apologetics website.  Hope it is helpful:

Online backups for free!

Posted by flooter under Free stuff, Nice resources

Mozy on over to this site to have 2 gigs worth of backups for free.  I have mine set up to sync all my documents rather than pictures and music that take up too much space.  So if my computer ever crashes or the fires come our way again, all my important docs are online.

Want to send a late night email?

You’ll have to pass Gmail’s late-night tests first (if you enable this new feature)

I stumbled across this while seeking a tutorial and it ties in well with the Jing Project.

Good stuff….
